Experts endorse EMOSIM at Lagos launch, say tech redefines travel connectivity
Experts and industry leaders have described EMOSIM, a new Nigerian tech service, as a game-changer for global connectivity. The service was officially launched in Lagos, drawing top government officials, business leaders, and tech experts.
EMOSIM is a digital SIM (eSIM) that lets users connect to mobile networks in over 190 countries without swapping SIM cards or paying high roaming fees. It offers a simple, affordable way for travellers, business people, and tourists to stay connected anywhere in the world.
Jimmy Eboma, the Founder and Chairman of EMOSIM, said this launch was not just about introducing a new product, but about changing the way Nigerians connect with the world.

Eboma said EMOSIM seeks to solve the problem often encountered by travellers who land in major cities across the world expecting their phones to work smoothly, only to face problems like expensive roaming charges, confusing SIM cards, and weak networks.
He said, “Imagine stepping off a plane in Dubai, London, or New York, thinking your phone will be buzzing with calls from loved ones, emails from clients, and instant access to maps to guide you. But instead of connection, you face silence, roaming charges that drain your wallet, SIM cards that demand hours in foreign queues, and fragmented networks that leave you stranded. For too long, this has been our reality. But today, that story changes.”
Eboma explained that EMOSIM is not just another SIM card. It is a revolution based on the simple idea that staying connected is not a luxury, but a necessity.
“With one tap, Nigerians and beyond now activate instant access to the world. No swaps. No shocks. No borders. Our EMOSIM connects you seamlessly across 190 countries with 600 networks, turning complexity into simplicity and frustration into freedom.”
Also speaking at the event, Prof. Umar Danbatta, a former Executive Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), praised EMOSIM’s efforts and the role of the NCC in making this possible.
He said that the NCC had long worked to ensure that Nigeria’s telecom resources are used wisely and that new players like EMOSIM can enter the market to provide affordable services.
Danbatta said, “EMOSIM met all the eligibility requirements and demonstrated the potential to deliver meaningful impact. You are truly helping to solve a real problem, providing affordable, reliable telecommunications services to people who have historically been left behind.”
He stressed that EMOSIM supports important principles of universal access: availability, accessibility, and affordability, which are key to digital inclusion and national growth.
Bayo Adedeji, CEO of Wakanow, spoke about how EMOSIM will help Nigeria save foreign currency. He noted that as a company, they buy eSIMs from foreign providers, which meant spending dollars out of Nigeria. With EMOSIM, a local company provides the service, keeping money inside the country.
He said, “Companies like ours, buy the e-SIM from other companies outside Nigeria. We bleed foreign exchange to those countries. We buy it and then we resell it to travellers leaving Nigeria.
It means that when we talk about foreign exchange and the dollar going up and down, this is one of the ways that we bleed the US Dollar. The Nigerian customer pays me in Naira. I pay the company that I buy the e-SIM from in US dollars And now we bleed that US dollar out of our country. Now with a local organization, having that solution, it’s about 1.5 million customers at Wakanow.com. It means that I can give that product to 1.5 million customers and reduce the foreign exchange bleedout that happens in Nigeria.”
Dr Jobson Ewalefoh, Director General of the Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission (ICRC), stressed the need for a business environment that supports such innovations. He called on the government and private sector to remove barriers and encourage more ideas and investments. he said, “We must invest our ideas and intellect into solutions like EMOSIM. This is how we build a self-sufficient economy.”
Tony Agenmonmen, past President of the National Institute of Marketing of Nigeria, also praised EMOSIM for solving a common problem for travellers. He pointed out how difficult it can be to stay connected when visiting different countries and praised the fact that a Nigerian company developed the solution.

“This product removes the headache of switching SIMs in different countries. It’s comforting that this is coming from Nigeria. Indeed, good things come from our country,” he said.
