Relief as Lagos plans to fix deplorable MMA airport access road

At last, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has listened to the harrowing pain of private jet operators, aviation agency workers and other users of the access road leading from the domestic wing of the Lagos airport to the international wing of the airport.

However, worried by the negative image it has to the FAAN and the country at large, the Managing Director of FAAN Mrs. Olubunmi Kiku has expressed her joy for the collaboration of the Lagos State Government to construct the 2.4-kilometre road.

The project work includes the complete road reconstruction, drainages on both sides, sidewalks, and streetlights. The entire project is expected to be delivered in nine months.

While expressing satisfaction with the quality and pace of the work, she asked that road users give the required cooperation to properly and timely construct the 2.4-kilometre road.

She also thanked the Lagos State Government for agreeing to collaborate with FAAN on the project.

“This road should have been done years ago, but I am glad that we have started it, and we need the full cooperation of all road users and members of the airport community to complete it on time and to the desired specifications,” she said.

“I also want to thank the Governor of Lagos State, Governor Babajode Sanwo-Olu, for partnering with us to ensure the speedy completion of this particular project.

“This collaboration is an example of the kind of productive partnerships we are open to encouraging at FAAN for us to make the experience of our passengers as pleasant as possible.

Mrs Olubunmi Kuku has urged members of the public, especially road users around the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, to demonstrate patience with the Authority as it steps up work on some of its operational roads within the airport area.

Kuku said while inspecting the road construction ongoing between the Toll Gate Plaza and Gate 13, known as the Service Road of the airport.

“I also want to thank the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr Festus Keyamo for his leadership and guidance, adding that his commitment and eye for detail have kept us on our toes, and we are glad that he continues to provide oversight on our work.

The bad portions of the road which have hampered even the trucking of aviation fuel from the Joint Users Hydrant Installation (JUHI)  depot to the tarmac for refuelling of aircraft have led to many wondering why the Minister and other influential Nigerians who frequent the area keep silent about the strategic road for a long time.

A business owner told Aviation Metric, “How could the Minister and others who frequent that road feign ignorance about the deplorable state of the road? It is like no one is ready to do anything or sacrifice anything for the Nigerian masses as long as it doesn’t affect them.
