Delta unveils new travel rewards as Nigerian flyers seek greater value on US routes

Eligible SkyMiles cardholders can earn two round-trip Comfort Flight Certificates and 50,000 bonus miles in the latest Delta-American Express announcement.

Delta Air Lines has unveiled a new travel reward package aimed at frequent flyers, offering eligible new Delta SkyMiles American Express Card Members the chance to earn two round-trip Delta Comfort Flight Certificates alongside 50,000 bonus miles.

The offer, running from August 27 to November 4, 2026, marks 30 years of partnership between Delta and American Express.

What It Means for Nigerian Travellers

As airlines compete on loyalty benefits and comfort alongside fares, the promotion highlights how frequent flyers can squeeze extra value out of international travel. Delta continues to operate direct nonstop flights between Lagos (LOS) and its primary hub in Atlanta (ATL).

However, Nigerian travellers should note a key limitation: the two Comfort Flight Certificates cannot be redeemed for the transatlantic Lagos–U.S. leg. Instead, they are restricted to domestic U.S. connections, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

For Nigerian passengers who frequently connect through Atlanta to visit family, conduct business, or vacation in multiple American cities, the certificates provide significant added value for domestic U.S. travel once they land.

For example, a traveller arriving in Atlanta could use a certificate for a subsequent domestic Delta journey to eligible destinations, making the benefit particularly relevant to Nigerians who combine business, family visits, or leisure trips across multiple U.S. cities.
