NCAA digitalise to streamline operations
The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has concluded plans to embark on a digital transformation to streamline its operations and enhance oversight.
The regulatory body is introducing digital platforms for processing approvals, licenses, renewals, and passenger complaints.
Acting Director-General, Civil Aviation, Captain Chris Najomo, made this announcement at the launch of a training program for the new Consumer Protection Portal in Lagos.
He emphasised that the portal will expedite complaint resolution and serve as a performance metric for both domestic and international airlines operating in Nigeria.
The DGCA explained that the capacity-building initiative aims to equip airlines and the NCAA with tools to address persistent passenger complaints related to flight delays, cancellations, and other service failures.
According to him, to support this, the NCAA will leverage information technology to modernize its processes.
“We are significantly advancing our digital transformation journey. This software will revolutionize our systems, from Air Operator Certificates (AOCs) to certifications, re-certifications, and licensing.”
The Consumer Protection Portal, Captain Najomo said, will enable real-time monitoring of airline performance, including passenger handling procedures. This data will inform public rankings of airlines based on consumer service.
“This training is crucial to the successful launch of the portal,” Najomo concluded. “By collaborating with stakeholders, we can maximize the benefits for everyone involved.”
Addressing the upcoming minimum fleet size requirement of six aircraft for Nigerian carriers, Najomo clarified that the NCAA is refining the policy to accommodate varying operational scales.
He also highlighted the Aviation Minister’s efforts to facilitate aircraft acquisition for local carriers.
Captain Najomo noted that, through engagements with Boeing, Embraer, and other manufacturers, the Minister is exploring options for dry leasing to bolster the domestic fleet.
The goal according to him is to encourage more operators to enter the market while ensuring safety standards.
