Farouk Umar dedicates national merit award to Sirika, lauds Minister

Director, Safety Electronics and Engineering Services of the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), Engr. Farouk Ahmed Umar who recently was honoured by the Federal Government with the prestigious National Productivity Order of Merit Award (NPOM) has dedicated his award to the Minister of Aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika for his outstanding achievements in the aviation industry.
Farouk Umar was among 28 recipients that were hosted by President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday in  Abuja. Shortly after that, he proceeded to see the Minister who was elated that the Federal Government found it worthy to reward the Kebbi born administrator who many believe has done well for himself, NAMA and the country at large.
Sirika who described him as a shining light for aviation said the honour would spur others to work harder; stressing that reward for hard work is more work.
The NAMA chief was received by Permanent Secretary, Engr. Hassan Musa and Director of Finance NAMA, Aniefiok Umoh and other top officials of the Ministry.
Farouk Umar said the dedication of the award and medal to Sirika was as a result of unprecedented achievement which he said were too numerous to list.
Among them were the speed at which the Abuja airport runway repair was done considering that it took the Minister’s initiative for the runway to be fixed, thereby saving the country the shame and embarrassment of a pot hole riddled runway which predated the current administration.
The Minister is working tirelessly to fix the Akanu Ibiam International  Airport, Enugu which was in a dilapidated and horrible situation despite several billion of naira wasted on a shoddy job of airport remodeling.
For the first time ever, engineers are installing the best navigational equipment that would make flight operate 24 hours into the aerodrome.
The Minister is equally working to bestow the country with national carrier among other projects that are on-going.
He thanked the Minister for giving him the opportunity to serve, adding that without the opportunity, he would not have achieved all he achieved.
The honour was in recognition for his contributions towards the improvement of communication, navigation and surveillance (CNS) facilities in order to ensure safe and efficient traffic services in the Nigerian airspace.
In 2016, Farouk Umar was appointed as substantive Director, Safety, Electronics and Engineering Services (DEES), a position he is still occupying up to this present moment.
Born in Birnin-Kebbi, Kebbi State on January 18, 1964, Farouk Umar a graduate of 1988.He bagged Bachelor of Engineering from the Federal University (FUT), Minna; Masters in International Affairs and Diplomacy from the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria; Masters in Business Administration (MBA) from the Lagos State University.
He is a fellow of Nigerian Society of Engineers,  Fellow Chartered  Institute of Administration, Fellow Nigerian Mechanical Engineers and COREN Registered among others.
Farouk Umar is a prolific and astute civil servant who took up the duty of achieving the mandate of his agency as soon as he was appointed Director, Safety, Electronics and Engineering Service.
He is an exceptional engineer par excellence, a hardworking civil servant who determinedly bridged boundaries to create a new NAMA based on best practices and international standards.
