Consulate compiles names for evacuation of Nigerians from US

  • Evacuees to bear cost of exercise, 37 Egyptians leave Nigeria

The Consulate General of Nigeria, New York, United States has begun the compilation of Nigerian nationals requiring emergency evacuation during the challenging period of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The financial implications of the evacuation will be borne by the prospective evacuee according to the consulate.

In an evacuation notice signed by Consul Information and Community Relations, Mrs. Ninikanwa Okey-Uche for Consul General titled, “Evacuation of Nigerians from the USA”, stated that the purpose of the exercise is to enable the Government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to provide the necessary assistance to Nigerian nationals in the United States of America.

The consulate requested that all Nigerian nationals desirous of evacuation to urgently email their detailed information to bnura@nigeriahouse.com and cgnny@nigeriahouse.com.

They are also requested to fill in their names as it appears on their passport, contact details, travel document status, valid Nigerian visa and proof of Nigerian nationality.

Others are current locations, current health status in relation to COVID-19 and reason for request

The consulate stated that information received will be compiled and forwarded to the Nigerian Government for appropriate action, adding that as soon as necessary arrangements are made, all concerned individuals will be informed accordingly.

Nigerians in the USA are advised to keep abreast of host government advisories on COVID-19 through the relevant agencies and stay safe.

Meanwhile, 37 Egyptians have been evacuated from the country through the Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport, Owerri.

The evacuation is due to the deadly Coronavirus pandemic globally.

An Air Peace aircraft for the evacuation mission arrived the airport at 11.27am and departed 11.56am to Abuja to pick other Egyptians to Cairo, Egypt capital.

This is the seventh evacuation embarked on by different countries thus far since the shut-down of passenger flight Operations into the country.

So far, Air France and Lufthansa have evacuated over 800 French and German nationals through Murtala Mohammed international airport Lagos.
