After Bangkok feat, Guale captains all female flight to Lagos

After operating all-women operated flight to Bangkok, Captain Amsale Guale, today achieved another feat by operating all female flight to Lagos.

The aircraft which landed at about 1.20pm was received with fanfare as many saluted the courage of the crew and one that showed that if women get equal opportunities and work hard, they can achieve whatever they want in all fields including the aviation industry.

The all-female crew, which also has Tigist Kibret as First Officer, flew in the  Boeing 777 into the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos and were received by top Nigerian aviation officials, top management of the airline led by its General Manager (Nigeria), Mrs. Firiehiwot Mekonnen among other dignitaries.

 Speaking at a short ceremony at the airport, Chairman, House of Representative Committee on Aviation, Nkeiruka Onyejiocha lauded the great efforts of women in all their fields of endeavour, adding that women are breaking all the grounds, describing what the ladies have done as a great achievement in aviation.

She urged women wanting to have a career to come out and dominate the sector at a time there is huge capacity gap in the sector in Nigeria.

Captain Guale, in 2010 become the first Ethiopian female captain by flying an Ethiopian Airlines Bombardier from Addis Ababa to Gondar.

The airline, which is currently the largest in Africa, said the flight was aimed at promoting women’s empowerment and encourages more African women to pursue aviation careers.

Although one-third of its employees are women, the figure is smaller when it comes to positions such as pilots and technicians, says Ethiopian Airlines.
