Streamlining Cargo Operations: FAAN Engages Top Freight Agents
The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has moved to boost Nigeria’s air cargo ecosystem by holding a strategic engagement with the top 100 Licensed Customs Agents operating at the Pilgrims and Cargo Terminal (PCT) of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.
Organised by FAAN’s Directorate of Cargo Development and Services (DCDS), the forum focused on resolving operational bottlenecks, strengthening inter-agency collaboration, and improving overall service delivery across the air cargo value chain.
Stakeholders highlighted critical pain points impacting cargo clearance at the PCT, including documentation delays, slow processing times, access control friction, and coordination gaps among regulatory agencies.
Speaking on behalf of the Managing Director of FAAN, Mrs Olubunmi Kuku, the Director of Cargo Development and Services (DCDS), Mr Lekan Thomas described customs agents and freight forwarders as the indispensable link between the airport and trade owners.
He emphasised that their hands-on operational experience is vital for shaping an efficient cargo environment.
Thomas stressed that seamless operations require strict adherence to airport security, documentation standards, and professional best practices.
He assured operators that the meeting is not a one-off event, but part of a sustained, structured framework designed to track issues, escalate operational roadblocks to appropriate authorities, and measure progress.
The initiative reinforces FAAN’s strategic vision under the DCDS to expand cargo throughput, accelerate trade facilitation, and build a safer, more transparent, and globally competitive air cargo environment across Nigerian airports.
