Woman delivers baby over Atlantic on board Lufthansa flight
Doctors took delivery of a baby on board Lufthansa German Airlines. The birth took place over the Atlantic.
The carrier in a statement confirmed that a passenger gave birth on board during the flight LH543 from Bogota on the way to Frankfurt. The flight started at 21:00 local time in Bogota on July 25th, 2017..
Three doctors were said to be on board and supported the crew during the delivery. In order provide the best medical care and assistance to the mother and baby the crew decided to divert the flight to Manchester (UK), where it landed at 13:09 local time.
The mother and the new born were safely de-boarded from the aircraft and taken to a local hospital by an ambulance where they are being cared for. Mother and baby are safe and sound, according to our info.
The flight was operated with an Airbus A340-300 with 191 passengers and 13 crew members on board. After refueling the flight LH543 continued to Frankfurt and landed at 17:28 local time in FRA (with an overall delay of 2 hours 15 minutes).
The carrier disclosed that more information about the passenger will be released at a later time, “however the safety of the mother and child are our current priority at the moment”
