- Ihenachor lauds team’s resilience
The Managing Director of the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) Ahmed Umar Farouk said that despite the challenges the agency faces in areas of outdated facilities, a shortage of spares, and other obstacles, the unwavering commitment, especially of air traffic engineers has ensured the seamless running of its facilities across the country.
In his address at the just concluded Retreat of the Directorate of Safety Electronic Engineering Services (DSEES) in Lagos at the weekend, Farouk lauded the communication team for keeping, “Our radios transmitting without interruption and enabling reliable coordination across all channels, just as he put the tremendous success to teamwork, passion and commitment in the pursuit of excellence.
His words, “The Navigation team ensures that our NAVAIDS guide aircraft safely through our airspace. The Surveillance Team ensures our RADAR vigilantly monitors the skies with precision, while the Power Systems Team provides the energy necessary to sustain these operations without fail. Your teamwork, passion, and commitment unite us all in the pursuit of excellence.”

The NAMA MD said the retreat serves as a reminder of the extraordinary work they do—often behind the scenes—but always essential to NAMA’s mission.
“Our theme, “Engineering a Culture of Excellence: Leadership, Innovation, and Collaboration”, is a testament to the dedication, resilience, and commitment that each one of you brings to the table. Our work is not merely about maintaining equipment—it’s about ensuring the safety and efficiency of Nigeria’s airspace. Every flight you help safeguard is a significant achievement, and that is no small feat.”
Looking to the future, he said, “Our goal remains clear: to become a leading Air Navigation Service Provider globally. This vision is within our grasp, thanks to your relentless efforts. Each challenge you overcome and every piece of technology you maintain brings us closer to this goal.”
He equally called the attention of the participants to innovation, explaining that it is at the core of what drives NAMA forward, stressing that while advanced technology plays a key role, the expertise of the engineers ensures its effectiveness, especially when they face challenges.
Emerging technologies like AI, he reiterated hold the potential to significantly improve safety and decision-making but charged that their creativity, adaptability, and determination will turn these possibilities into meaningful results, assuring that together, they would leverage innovation to cement their position as leaders in air navigation.
“Leadership at DSEES goes beyond directing operations. It’s about inspiring one another to strive for excellence, challenge the status quo, and embrace change. Your leadership—through action and innovative solutions—fuels our collective progress.”
Collaboration he further stated was fundamental to overcoming obstacles, whether through staff shortages or outdated infrastructure.
“By working together, we can solve any challenge and emerge stronger as a team. This teamwork is key to our continued success. You are not just employees; you are the heartbeat of NAMA. The future of NAMA rests in your hands, and the work you do today will define the future of air navigation services globally.”
