Enugu Air aircraft nosewheel badly damaged, runs into ‘bush’ after landing

An Enugu Air aircraft operating a scheduled flight into Benin Airport has been involved in a runway excursion after landing. All 68 passengers and crew members were safely evacuated without injuries.

The aircraft, a 5N-BZN operated by Enugu Air, veered off the runway after landing at Benin Airport. The airline confirmed that all 68 passengers and crew were safely evacuated to the terminal building, with no injuries or fatalities recorded.

In a statement, Enugu Air said the aircraft had been secured, while the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) and the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB), alongside other relevant aviation agencies, have been notified in accordance with established safety procedures. The airline said investigations are underway to determine the cause of the runway excursion.

The exact cause has yet to be established, but the investigation is expected to examine flight data, weather conditions, aircraft performance and airport infrastructure before reaching any conclusions.

Enugu Air also advised passengers to expect temporary adjustments to some flight schedules as recovery efforts continue. The airline said affected passengers would be contacted directly and provided with the necessary support.

Enugu Air reiterated that safety remains its highest priority and pledged to provide further updates through its official communication channels as more information becomes available.
