At retreat, Babalakin signals new era for MMA2, BASL prepares to sign concession settlement agreement

Bi-Courtney Aviation Services Limited (BASL), operators of Murtala Muhammed Airport Terminal Two (MMA2), has concluded a high-powered three-day mid-year strategic management retreat as it positions itself for a major leap toward regional expansion and international operations.

Themed “Leadership for Total Quality Delivery,” the retreat brought together senior management and key stakeholders to map out strategic priorities, reinforce core values, and align leadership for BASL’s next phase of growth.

Addressing executives at the opening session, BASL Chairman, Dr Wale Babalakin (SAN), reflected on the company’s nearly two-decade journey, highlighting its resilience in pioneering private airport development in Nigeria despite widespread scepticism.

Babalakin revealed that a major breakthrough is on the horizon regarding the long-standing concession agreement, crediting the Federal Government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for facilitating progress.

“In the coming days, we will sign the settlement agreement to further position MMA2 internationally and advance our ambition of becoming a leading aviation hub in Africa,” Babalakin announced.

“With this progress comes greater responsibility. We must continue to lead with excellence, strengthen collaboration, and build an organisation that inspires pride.”

Emphasising that MMA2’s success over the last 20 years rests on a foundation of institutional strength, Babalakin urged the leadership team to remain steadfast in their commitment to high operational standards.

“Our success is anchored on competence and integrity. These remain non-negotiable values,” he stated. “Our ambition is clear: to establish and operate the best airport terminal, not only in Nigeria, but across the region.”

Facilitated by Mrs Olubanwo Adeosun, Lead Consultant at O’BIA Consulting, the retreat featured intensive sessions focused on leadership effectiveness & cultural alignment, operational efficiency & service delivery and strategic preparations for regional expansion.

Adeosun praised the executive team for their candid self-assessment and collective commitment to driving organisational transformation.

Reiterating the management’s resolve, Acting Chief Operating Officer and Head of Space and Premises Management, Mr Kola Bamigboye, stated that the focus is now entirely on execution, accountability, and tracking measurable outcomes.

“The focus now is on translating the outcomes of this retreat into deliberate actions, strengthening leadership alignment, improving communication, and ensuring that these changes are reflected in how we lead and work across the organisation,” Bamigboye noted.

With the imminent signing of the settlement agreement, BASL has reaffirmed its resolve to elevate passenger experience, push regional boundaries, and solidify MMA2’s footprint as a premier hub in African aviation.
