Power outage disrupts activities at Lagos airport

For about an hour, activities at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos came to a halt over power outage at the premier airport.
Engineers battled to restore power to the terminal but eventually succeeded as travellers struggled to conduct their activities under darkness.
Meanwhile, spokeswoman for the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Mrs. Henrietta Yakubu in a statement made available to Woleshadare.net said a minor power interruption at the public concourse of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos caused the disruption.
Her words, “Our team of engineers swung in to action and normalcy has been restored at affected areas”.
turesWhile assuring airport users of safety and security at airports, she stated that FAAN wishes to apologise to passengers, airlines and the general public for the inconvenience caused by this interruption.
FAAN had recently attributed the incessant power outage at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) to construction work going on at the new international terminal of the airport.
Although light was restored at most parts of the airport yesterday, FAAN explained that there could be more disruptions, as the agency plans to find a lasting solution to the power cuts.
The agency explained that electric cables buried underground that provided power at the airport were inadvertently excavated by construction workers at the location where the new terminal is being built.
Investigation also disclosed that demand for electricity at the airport has been overstretched due to increased activities and expansion of the terminal requiring transformers and it is in the process of installing more power equipment.
