Nigeria, a big market for us-RwandAir, plans not to exit country

RwandAir said it would consolidate on growing its frequency in Nigeria and does not have any  plan to cease operations.

The carrier in a statement today also denied withdrawing its brand new A330-300 it deployed on the Kigali-Lagos, saying it operates the airplane to Lagos because it believes that Nigeria holds the potentials for any airline or business because of its attractive market.

This makes it the third carrier that has shown strong commitment to the country despite economic recession that made some carriers to pull out of Nigeria’s lucrative aviation market.
First was Delta Airlines. Penultimate week, Commercial Director for West, East, Central and Lusophone Africa at Delta Air Lines, said the carrier does not plan to leave the country, Bobby Bryan disclosing,We’re here, we’re not going anywhere. We see growth here, whether there are other carriers or not. So it doesn’t change our plans particularly.”

The next was South African Airways (SAA, which
said despite the tough economic reality, the airline does not plan to exit the country, saying it believes in the nation’s burgeoning aviation market.

Regional Manager, North, West and Central Africa for the airline, Mr. Ohis Ehimiagh, at a media get together with the media in Lagos said contrary to insinuations; the carrier does not intend to stop flights to the country.

In statement yesterday, the management of RwandAir in Kigali said the clarification has become imperative in view of recent reports in a section of Nigerian media suggesting that the airline was planning to withdraw from Nigeria.

The airline said such story in the media is a misrepresentation of the facts on ground concerning its operations in Nigeria.

According to the management, “Regarding the publication of a Nigerian Newspaper dated December 8th, 2016, on RwandAir.
“Rwand Air wishes to notify its esteemed audience that the entire article is erroneous, wrong, misinformed and invalid.

“There is no basis whatsoever for what the story tries to portray or to insinuate. RwandAir has no intention of withdrawing its operations to and from Nigeria rather it has all intentions of growing in frequency and capacity in this market that it has been serving for the past five years.
“Furthermore, the only authorized person to speak to the media on behalf of the airline in Nigeria is the Country Manager, Ms. Ibiyemi Odusi, and as such it is regrettable that the newspaper did not make any efforts to contact her to verify their article ahead of publication.

“RwandAir requests that the Nigerian Newspaper  immediately retract this fictitious article.”
