JUST IN: FG evacuates 162 stranded in India

 

No fewer than 162 Nigerians stranded in India have been evacuated, it was learnt.

The evacuees are the third batch to have been evacuated from India.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama disclosed this in a tweet on Wednesday.

 

Over 4,000 Nigerians were stranded across the globe due to the global lockdown occasioned by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Federal Government has set ending of July to complete evacuation of its nationals stranded abroad.

lready, about 3,000 have been successfully evacuated in the last two months.

The 162 evacuees, according to the Minister, were conveyed by a local airline, Air Peace.

He said: “The third batch of 162 evacuees has departed New Delhi, India by Air Peace.

“The combined flight to Abuja and Lagos will first land at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja to disembark 48 passengers before proceeding to Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos with the remaining 114 passengers. All evacuees will then proceed on the mandatory 14 days self isolation”.
