FG Approves ₦46bn for Kano Airport Runway Overhaul

The Federal Government has approved ₦46 billion for the comprehensive rehabilitation of the primary and secondary runways at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA), Kano.
Making the disclosure on Tuesday, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, revealed that roughly 60 per cent of the contract sum has already been disbursed to the contractor, who has mobilised to the site.
Keyamo spoke during the official commissioning of the newly upgraded Domestic Terminal (Dankabo Terminal) at MAKIA.
Describing the airport as a strategic aviation and commercial gateway for Northern Nigeria, the Minister emphasized that the project aligns with the Ministry’s Five-Point Agenda and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

Following the official ribbon-cutting, the Minister led dignitaries on an inspection tour of the facility. Stakeholders present commended the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) for delivering a modern passenger terminal that meets international standards.
Speaking at the event, the Managing Director of FAAN, Mrs Olubunmi Kuku, described the project as a major milestone in the Authority’s drive to elevate passenger experience across the country.
Kuku expressed optimism that the upgraded Dankabo Terminal would now compete favourably with major domestic hubs in Abuja and Lagos while boosting economic activities across Northern Nigeria.
Also speaking at the ceremony, the Chairman of the FAAN Board of Directors, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, lauded the Ministry and FAAN management for their dedication to infrastructure renewal, noting that the project will significantly spur regional economic growth.
The newly renovated terminal stands as a testament to FAAN’s strategic drive toward building safer, smarter, and more efficient airport infrastructure nationwide.
