Arik Again Tops In Flight Delays, BA In Missing Baggage –NCAA

With 307 delays out of 438 flights, 190 missing/delayed baggage, Nigeria’s flag carrier airline, Arik, topped the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA)’s summary of complaints received against international and domestic airlines for the months of October and November 2016.

The airline also received the highest number of complaints of discourtesy. In a report made available to Woleshadare.net, Arik, however, recorded 408 flights, 16,335 total number of inbound passengers and 16,393 number of outbound passengers during the period under review.

On the other hand, mega carrier, British Airways, recorded the highest number of flight delays and missing baggage among foreign airlines operating to the country.

A total of 81 missing luggage and 40 flight delays were reported and documented for the carrier. The British carrier had a total number of 23,029 inbound passengers for the months of October and November 2016, while outbound figure stood at 22,696 for the two months in review.

For the month of October, 26 international airlines operated to the country while total number of flights operated stand at 1,153; 502 delays; six cancellations; 270 cases of missing luggage; 1,874 baggage found; 11 cases of pilferage and discourtesy; 130,904 inbound and 137,215 outbound passengers.

The following international airlines operated into Nigeria; African World, Air Ivoire, Air France, Arik, ASKY, British Airways, CAMAIRC0, Cronos Air, Dana Air, Delta, EgyptAir, Emirates, Ethiopian, Etihad, Kenya Airways, KLM, Lufthansa, Meridiana, Medview, Middle East, and Qatar.

Others are Royal Air Maroc, RwandAir, Saudi Air, Sudan, South African Airways, Turkish Airlines and Virgin Atlantic Airways.

 

On the domestic front, eight airlines operated for the month of October with 4,101 flights operated, 2,435 delays, 64 cancellations, two air returns, four delay cases of missing/delayed luggage, 311,431 outbound, 326,234 inbounds and one unresolved case.

According to the report, on the domestic scene, Arik operated 1,660 flights and recorded 1,020 delays; cancelled 45 flights, made two air returns and airlifted 209,288 passengers in October 2016. Air Peace came second behind Arik.

 

The airline operated 898 flights, had 489 delays and airlifted 173,758 passengers. Azman Air operated 343 flights, had 272 delays and airlifted 53,662 passengers, while Dana Air operated 578 flights and recorded 318 delays. Dana, within that period, airlifted 108,329 passengers.

Medview Airlines operated 307 flights, had 204 delays and carried 62,952 passengers.Overland operated 153 flights and recorded 97 delays and carried 8,191 passengers. FirstNation Airways operated 162 flights, had 35 delays and airlifted 29, 872 passengers.

For the month of November, 26 foreign carriers plied the nation’s airports, recording 1,289 flights, 587 delays, 18 cancellations, four air returns, 388 delayed/ missing luggage and 310,302 passengers were collectively carried.

For domestic airlines, all the carriers, with the exception of Aero Contractors, did 3,903 flights, recording 2,911 delays, 63 cancellations and carried 738,711 passengers.

A breakdown of the figure shows that Arik operated 1,364 flights, got passengers delayed 1,072 times, cancelled 36 times and airlifted 186,004 passengers.

In November 2016, Air Peace surpassed Arik in the total number of passengers it carried. The airline airlifted 206,087 passengers, recording 980 flights, 678 delays and 63 cancellations.
