NiMet, Katsina State ink deal on Climate Services

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU)  with Katsina State Government to provide information and data in respect of the 2017 Seasonal Rainfall Prediction (SRP) and other climatic services.
 
During the signing of the MoU at NiMet Headquarters, Abuja, the outgoing Director General of NIMET, Dr. Anthony Anuforom expressed gratitude and appreciation to the Minister of State for Aviation, Hadi Sirika, for his support of the initiative to provide a downscaled SRP to interested Stakeholders across various sectors.

Katsina State was commended for being the first to respond and this acts as a morale booster for NiMet: an agency whose products and services continues to gain national acceptance and recognition.
 
While stressing that climate change is real, Anuforom praised Katsina State Government for identifying Agriculture as one of the key processes for the economic development of the state.
 
He hinted that SRP 2017 is around the corner and sincerely hoped that the MoU will indeed add value to the process for the benefit of the people of Katsina State and by extension, Nigeria.
 
In his response, the Special Adviser on Agriculture to Kastina State Government and leader of the delegatiocn to NiMet, Abdullahi Abbah, reiterated the importance of the agreement to the State Government.
 
He reaffirmed that signing of the MoU is a legally binding process in support of the partnership between the two parties and promised to look up to NiMet for further training of staff for weather prediction.
 
He also commended NiMet for its timely and accurate weather prediction offered to the state, which has been monitored critically.
 
Recently appointed Director-General of NiMET, Prof. Abubakar Sani Mashi in his closing remarks, expressed gratitude to the team and stakeholders in the state for their commitment and support in making the signings of the MoU a reality.
 
 He commended the outgoing DG/CEO for his commitment and effort at reaching out to other stakeholders and ensuring that the impact of NiMet is felt nationwide.
